Creative local primary pupil wins logo competition for Sir John Moore Barracks redevelopment
One talented local pupil has left their mark on history. Prakriti, a 10-year-old student at Harestock Primary School, has been named the winner of the Sir John Moore Barracks redevelopment logo competition, helping to shape the visual identity of the site’s exciting future.
Launched earlier this year, the competition invited pupils from nearby primary schools to design a logo that captures the spirit of the barracks, its strong ties to the Winchester community, and the vision for a vibrant, sustainable new neighbourhood.
Prakriti’s design stood out from a host of creative entries and was chosen by a panel of judges from the project team and the Ministry of Defence. Drawing additional inspiration from the entries of the two runners-up, Harry and Izzy, the winning logo will now be professionally developed and featured on all public-facing material, from community consultation events to project updates, making the students’ artwork a key part of this transformation journey.

Robert Smith, Head of Major Disposals at the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) Estate Division, said:
“We wanted to give young people a voice in this redevelopment, and we were blown away by the creativity and thought that went into the entries. Prakriti’s design really stood out. It beautifully reflects both the site’s heritage and its future as a key part of Winchester. We’re thrilled to bring this design to life as part of the project’s identity.”
The final version of the new logo will be revealed ahead of the next public consultation, set to take place in the Autumn.

Over the coming months, we will be undertaking a comprehensive and transparent three stage consultation programme, reviewing all feedback received throughout, and where possible, incorporating this into the final proposals prior to submitting an application to Winchester City Council.
